今年ヤーンアライブではクリスマスパーティーを3回も催しました。楽しみも3倍というわけ！This year Yarn Alive celebrated THREE Christmas Parties. Triple the fun!
お祝いはメンバー達が会場のドアのところでお楽しみ券を手に入れるところから始まります。 パーティーの間に何回も進行係が数字を読み上げる度にその数字を持っている人が「当たり！」で、ヤーンのプレゼントの入った箱から好きなのをもらえるのです。The celebrations started off as soon as people arrived through the doors with each receiving a raffle ticket. Throughout the party, at any given moment, a number would be shouted out! If that was your number, you got to get up and check the Christmas stash and choose your favorite pack of yarn.

美味しい食べ物、ゲーム、スライドショーなど笑いの中で楽しい時間をもちましたが、そんな中でテディーさんがクリスマスに因んだお話をしました。1914年のクリスマスの頃、第一次世界大戦の激戦地で敵味方の軍部の協定によるのではなく自然発生的に最前線の兵士たちが停戦 したことがありました。ドイツ兵たちが塹壕やクリスマスツリーにキャンドルを付け、クリスマスソングを合唱してお祝いしていると、イギリス兵がそれを聴いて、クリスマスソングの合唱で応えたのです。その中には聖夜も入っていて、敵味方が一緒に合唱したのです。銃声が消え、平和を祈る夜になりました。そして、停戦中には、お互いの塹壕から出てきて、挨拶を交わし、プレゼントを交換し合い、フットボールゲームまでしたのだそうです。Amongst all the fun, great food, games, slideshows and laughs, Teddy was able to share about the message of Christmas. The key word this year was "Peace". Teddy shared the famous "Christmas Truce" story. Around Christmas 1914, there was a series of widespread but unofficial ceasefires along the Western Front during World War 1. One version of the story is that the Germans placed candles on their trenches and on Christmas trees. They continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols. The British could hear them and so responded by singing carols of their own. "Silent Night" was one carol that they sang together. There was no sounds of gunfire or war - but a night of singing about peace. This lead to soldiers crossing trenches and exchanging greetings, presents and even playing football games!

人類の歴史上最悪の戦争中のこのヒューマニズム、一瞬の平和。そして、我々も平和を持ちうるのです。家族、友人、仕事仲間など自分が関わる人々と平和な人間関係を築きましょう。この戦争中の停戦の話を覚えていてほしいという願いを込めて、鳩の絵と平和(ピース) という言葉が刻まれたタッグをメンバー達にプレゼントしました。
This was such a "symbolic moment of peace and humanity amidst one of the most violent events of human history." In each of our lives, we can carry peace. Be an instrument of peace in our families, friends and workplaces. As a reminder, each lady received a gift tag with a picture of a Dove and the word "Peace" on the other side.
そして、最後に皆で「聖夜」を合唱しました。 Of course the party would not be complete without singing carols together, especially "Silent Night"!
