ヤーンアライブハウスが完成しました！Yarn Alive House has been completed!

みなさまのご支援とご協力のもと建設を進めてまいりましたヤーンアライブハウス。この夏完成し、先週はオープニングを祝うことができました！！！心から感謝します！With support and help from all of you, Yarn Alive House had been under construction as planned - and this summer, it's been completed! Thank you so so much! We had a opening celebration last week!

It has been a very hot summer so far for us here in Shichigahama! I hope you are all enjoying the season.

It’s been a little while since we’ve posted something here - we’ve been in a bit of a transition! The building project is in progress, and we’re getting ready for it to be finished to start another new chapter for us here at Yarn Alive!

このブログに記事をアップするのもちょっと久しぶりになってしまいました。ヤーンアライブではヤーンアライブハウスの完成と新しいスタート向けていろいろと準備をしているところです。

All of you have enjoyed our beautiful pictures on our website and other sites, and many of you may have wondered who the talented person behind the camera is? Christina Sawka has been helping us from the beginning, in fact, she experienced the 3/11earthquake herself right here at Shichigahama. She watched the waves come in to flood the whole area on that tragic day, and she has since witnessed and recorded the recovery process of our town. She has helped us deliver knitted items to those who needed them in our area and taken photos.

ヤーンアライブのホームページやフェイスブックなどに掲載してきた記事のすてきな写真の数々。誰が撮影しているの？と聞かれることは少なくありません。その写真家クリスティーナ・サーカさんは震災直後から私たちと一緒に働いてきてくれました。彼女も実はあの震災の日、七ヶ浜の丘の上から津波が押し寄せて町を押し流していくのを目の前で見た一人だったのです。それから彼女は、七ヶ浜町の復興を自分の目で見て記録してきました。彼女は被災者の方々に編んだ作品を届けたり写真を撮ったりしてくれました。

About 2 years ago, Christina officially came on as staff, and this cool website you’re looking at is also the result of her work! She has put into place a great foundation for Yarn Alive so we can be organised and expand! She has helped us build the image of Yarn Alive, as well as with our publicity. We couldn’t have come this far without her!

２年ほど前から、クリスティーナはヤーンアライブのスタッフとして働いてくれました。今見ていただいているこのウェブサイトを始めシステムを設定してくれたのも彼女です。これで今後もっと活動を広げていくことができます！ヤーンアライブのイメージ作りや広報も担当してくれました。本当に彼女の働きなくしては今のヤーンアライブはなかったと思います。

Early summer, Christina has decided it’s time for her to move on. She will be greatly missed by all of us, but we would like to say a big THANK YOU! for all the work and creativity she has put into Yarn Alive!! We will cheer her on as she and her husband go on to the next adventure in their life!

２０１１年の大震災をきっかけに始まったヤーンアライブは、私たちが受けてきたのと同じくらいの愛と支援を他の地域の方々にもお返ししていきたい、そのように考えて活動を続けてきました。

そして４月末に起こったネパールの大地震の後、モザンビークプロジェクトでも協力してくださったサマリタンズパースを通してヤーンアライブはたくさんの毛糸の帽子をプレゼントすることができました。このことをとても嬉しく思っています。また、ご協力くださったみなさまに心から感謝いたします。

まだまだ現地にはたくさんの支援が必要とされているようです。

サマリタンズパースのローレンス綾子さんを通して現地で働いているスタッフの方が、帽子を届けて写真を送ってくださいました。

Yarn Alive was started after the 2011 earthquake in Tohoku, Japan. We have received so much support and love from so many people all over the world - so we have always wanted to give back to the people around the world what we have received. 

After the big earthquake that happened in Nepal at the end of April, we decided to donate some knitted hats to the people in Nepal. This time again, Samaritan's purse, who has partnered with us for our Mozambique project, helped us deliver them. We are so happy we were able to help in some way. Also, thank you to those of you who joined us and helped us in this project!  

We hear that there is still much need in Nepal.

Ayako Lawrence of Samaritan's Purse transported these from Japan to Nepal, and the staff in Nepal delivered them to these precious people!

Michiyoさん訪問！Michiyo visits Yarn Alive!

今日は３つのクラスが一緒にミチヨさんを迎える事が出来て大変たのしかったです！
It was so wonderful to have 3 of our classes join together for the first time and welcome our special guest, Michiyosan! 

ミチヨさんに七ヶ浜まで来て頂けたことにとってもありがたく思っています。霜平さんにも来て頂けました！このお二人にここ数年協力して頂けた事に感謝しています！

We are so grateful for Michiyosan traveling all the way to Shichigahama to visit us.  Our good friend, Shimohirosan was able to travel up here to be with us today as well! We are so thankful for these 2 ladies and all their support over the years!

また今日はモザンビークのニット帽寄付の報告も聞けました。配布時の帽子をかぶる子供達の写真をみて笑いあり、拍手ありの感動のときでした。配布して下さった綾子・ローレンスのレポートも聞けました。彼女は現在ネパールにて私たちのニット帽は配布しています。

Today we were able to also celebrate our Hat Project to Mozambique. We laughed and clapped as we watched the photos of everyone making hats and then seeing the kids in Mozambique actually wearing them!  It was also great to hear the written report from Ayako Lawrence, our correspondent who delivered the hats.  She is currently in Nepal delivering more hats for us!

What would a Yarn Alive class be without a little fashion show! The ladies modelled some of their latest creations. 

ミチヨさんの素晴らしい本の中からの１パターンを編んで、それを着てきた相川さん。Aikawasan was actually wearing a pattern that she made from Michiyo's amazing book. 

マユミさんも同じくミチヨさんの本からのパターンを着て参加しました。皆さんはこの美しいパターンを見て喜んでいました。Mayumisan also brought along a sweater that she made from Michiyo's book. Everyone was keen to check out such beautiful patterns!

命、友情、と編み物を祝う事が出来た素晴らしい日になりました。そして私たちは読者、またサポーターの皆様に感謝しています！皆様も素晴らしい１日を！

Mozambique Report

We were so fortunate to be able to make hats for the children in Mozambique last month. Ayako, who hand delivered the hats for us, was going to share with us tomorrow about the trip. However she has been called to Nepal to help with the disaster there.  She will be carrying our hats there as well! So tomorrow we will show the ladies the pictures of the children in Mozambique and share the letter that Ayako has written about the trip. We are very excited to have Michiyo join us tomorrow as well! Stay tuned for pictures!!

先月、モザンビークの子供達のために帽子を編むことができました。その帽子をモザンビークまで届けてくださったあやこさんが明日のクラスでモザンビークでの様子を報告してくださる予定でしたが、急にネパールの地震被災者支援に呼ばれ、クラスに来れなくなってしまいました。でも、ネパールへも私たちが編んだ帽子を持って行ってくださるそうです！

ということで、明日のクラスでは、あやこさんからの手紙とモザンビークの子供達の写真を紹介します。みちよさんもクラスにきてくださるそうですので、お楽しみに！

Yarn Alive has some big news!!! ヤーンアライブからビッグニュースです！！！

We are so excited to announce that Yarn Alive has been granted permission from Miyagi Prefecture to build a Yarn Alive house in the local area on land that we have rented from the town of Shichigahama.  It has taken many months to receive this permission, but Yarn Alive now has the go ahead to build!  We are thrilled that not only does Yarn Alive have a permanent home but that we will also provide a community center for the surrounding area.   The Yarn Alive House will have a classroom large enough for people to gather together for classes.  There will also be a large storeroom for the donated yarn and supplies as well as a lending library of craft books for the growing community of knitters in this town.  There will also be a large kitchen to be able to serve tea and host future events.

七ヶ浜町からヤーンアライブの専用の建物「ヤーンアライブハウス」のための土地の使用許可を受けていたのですが、建物を建設するためには宮城県からの許可が必要でした。何ヶ月も申請を続け、いよいよ今回、許可を得ることができました！ヤーンアライブの活動のため長期的な使用が出来るだけでなく、地域の人々のためのコミュニティーセンターとしても利用していただけるようになります。この建物には、メンバーが集まって活動するのに十分な大きさの教室と、寄付をしていただいた毛糸や道具を保管するための倉庫、そして増え続けている地域の編み物愛好者のための図書室も備えられます。今後の活動やイベントのためのキッチンも予定されています。

We have felt the need for a Yarn Alive house for quite some time now. It has been heavy on our hearts that a time would come when the women in Yarn Alive would have to move out of temporary housing and go back to the neighborhoods that they came from before the tsunami.  For various reasons, these women had to make new friends these past four years.  Although it is exciting that they are finally moving out of temporary housing it does come with side affects.  It means that they cannot be together as a group anymore.  As we have seen in other areas, isolation, depression and ultimately suicide escalates.  We need a central place where we can gather these women and continue to build purpose and life into each one of them.

私たちは長い間、このようなヤーンアライブハウスが必要であると感じていました。震災から時が経つにつれ、仮設住宅に住んでいる女性たちも被災前の居住区へ戻らなければならない日が近づいていました。この女性たちはこの４年間の間に新しい友人たちができました。仮設住宅から移動できることは喜ばしいことではありますが、それは多々にして、それまでと同じグループの友人たちと一緒に過ごすことが難しくなるということも意味します。他の被災地では、孤独感や鬱に悩む人の増加、そして自殺者も増えたと聞いています。ヤーンアライブのみんなが続けて一緒に集まり、日々の目的を見いだし続けることができる中心的な場所が必要としています。

It will also be wonderful to have all our supplies in one place and to be able to distribute yarn to many more people who want to make things with us to send to other people in need.  In the past four years we have seen how our projects of making things for Disaster Relief, Syrian refugees, people in nursing homes, babies in hospitals, hats for school children in Mozambique, etc, has helped our members have a purpose in their lives.  We feel like we have received so much from others and now we can give to someone else in need.    We really believe that we can have a lot of activities going from this special place. We are also excited of the prospect of extending our vision to other areas of Japan and overseas!

また、毛糸や道具をまとめて保管して、同じ場所からそれらを他の方々に送ったり、作品を編 んで必要のある人々のもとに届けることができれば素晴らしいと思います。この４年間の間に、被災支援のために作品を送ったり、シリアやヨルダンの難民の支 援をしたり、老人施設や病院の新生児への支援、モザンビークの子どもたちのための帽子を贈ったりしてきました。このようなプロジェクトを通して、メンバー のみんなが生き甲斐を見出す手助けとなっています。私たちは国内国外の多くの方々からたくさんのものを受けたからこそ、今度は必要のある方々に何かを捧げ ていくことができるのだと思います。このスペシャルな場所を通して、いろいろな活動を発展させていくことができると信じています。私たちのビジョンを国内 国外にさらに広げることを楽しみにしています！
